THE ARTIST

“We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.”

Pukka Sahib is a British born artist whose monumental body of work represents a microcosm of collective memory, visually encapsulating a broad range of cultural, literary, and philosophical allusions.

Pukka’s oeuvre encompasses paintings, that are grand in size as well as the idea behind it. As he maintains his anonymity, he can spread controversial political and social awareness through his artwork without holding back.

Due to the large scale of his paintings, his pictorial scheme appears to extend beyond our peripheral vision. He is a creator whose art defies spacial limitations. Colorful patterns advance and recede, undulate and coalesce.

They emulate the manner in which the universe operates in the energetic realms of both the microcosm and macrocosm.

Unlike many other modern artists Pukka focuses on integrating his classical knowledge of painting through the prism of modern vision which is represented by immaculate brush strokes and vein use of color. His modernity is represented in the idea behind the painting ranging from philosophical dystopian illusion to political realism.

By integrating his incredible oil technique on a large three-meter-long canvas, his latest triptych is a subtle representation of a soon-to-be reality in post-soviet Russia. Pukka Sahib ‘s favorite and most painful topic of discussion to which he brings the light on importance of the sacred and spiritual, myth and memory.

The artist brings an extensive mastery of color theory, innate sense of rhythm, and compositional elements to each painting. His art is visual poetry bursting forth with relentless energetic expression. Pukka Sahib has developed his own visual vocabulary and inimitable style. With utmost proficiency he invites us to view the world as a magical, fluid and invigorating panorama. Through his paintings we experience our universe with a new expansive and compelling and controversial perspective.

Picturesque landscapes are all brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colors and bold compositions. As Pukka explains, “I am a storyteller and I welcome you to join me on this visual journey. I want my art to have the same impact as I book would.”
